After the clinical
trials reported last year, the management team and clinical advisors to
the company realized that LumeRx's light therapy was best suited to refractory
patients, those who had failed primary treatment for H. pylori with antibiotics.
While the number of patients who meet these criteria is significant, they
are not seen by the gastroenterologists. These patients typically self-medicate
with antacids and other over-the-counter medications. The company explored
an internet marketing strategy to determine if the company could recruit
patients directly, encouraging them to contact regional treatment centers
to be set up with the LumeRx technology. Sufficient interest from GI physicians
in this regional center paradigm could not be generated to convince existing
or new investors that the market is large enough to justify additional
investment. Based on these findings, the Board elected to cease operations. For further information
